Artificial Intelligence in Human Resources

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been on the landscape for decades. Recently however, it has become more accessible to workers everywhere. There are many ways that AI apps like ChatGPT will be integrated into the workforce. But what will be the role of AI in Human Resources management (HRM)?

The Role of AI in HR Management

HR professionals need to be ready for anything. While there are so many unknowns, the biggest priority is measuring the risk of AI to data security within companies. HR experts will need to be mindful of updating policies and procedures to incorporate the use of artificial intelligence like ChatGPT in their companies and define parameters or eliminate it all together.

It’s important to consider that while technology in many cases can reduce errors, it can in certain cases cause more errors. There is also the concern of data security using artificial intelligence tools. Implications of data security and technology-prone errors for each organization need to be carefully considered.

Application of AI

Artificial intelligence aids greatly in visually transferring knowledge, usually through writing. Workplace tasks that are purely written knowledge transfers can be enhanced or augmented by the use of artificial intelligence. These knowledge transfers can aid in the interactions that people in the workplace have with one another.

For example, a veterinarian and staff examining a pet could use artificial intelligence within the process of checking in the pet, analyzing symptoms, and answering simple questions. A veterinarian and their staff would still do the evaluation and work with the owners and their pet, using their experience and discretion, however AI could function as a way to answer initial questions for the pet owner and help the staff to determine appropriate diagnoses. A teacher could use AI in the classroom to augment learning for their students, but the human-to-human interaction is still paramount. Documents that need to be translated to various languages for a large staff can easily be done using artificial intelligence.

The most successful organizations reach their levels of achievement because of the humans in their workforce.

While artificial intelligence is still considered to be in its infancy, and we will see more of it, organizations need to continue to prioritize their human assets, and use technology to aid in benefits such as more work/life balance for employees.
