Thrive Global interviewed Flex HR’s Senior Vice President, Dr. John Cascone, to talk about how we need to adjust for the future of work. He notes that “globalization is the greatest societal force that will impact the future of work for the remainder of the 21st century. The recent pandemic is evidence of how globalization affected the health of the world’s population. While the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic can be clearly seen on businesses, healthcare, job security and government, globalization also has had its impact on trade, consumer goods, industry, immigration, and social polarization all of which has and will continue to have an impact on our workforce.”
The whole world learned quickly they needed to adapt to the change in order to survive. Businesses shifted their operations and made changes to their policies and better prepared their workforce to adjust to these alterations.
You may have noticed #QuietQuitting all over social media, or heard about a TikTok video by Zaid Khan, an engineer in his twenties, who discusses the trend of those who feel that life is more than the hustle of working long hours and going the extra mile. Instead, he expresses the view that it’s okay to show up and simply fulfill the requirements in your job description and then leave, as we aren’t defined by our work.
This philosophy isn’t just being adopted by twenty-year-olds and TikTokers, however. Over 50% of American workers could be called quiet quitters, according to Gallup, and though many are under 35, as many as 18% of workers of all ages are disengaged.
The quiet quitting trend started in 2021, after the pandemic and at the beginning of the great resignation. At the same time, quiet firing and hiring have risen.
In 2021, a Kansas-based company with a team of 56, contacted Flex HR in the hopes of moving their dated human resources data to a cloud-based payroll management solution. Benefits of making this conversion is for critical information to be streamlined and securely stored in one place. After attentively listening to the customer’s current HR and payroll administrative process and comprehending their expectations, Flex HR implemented a successful cloud-hosted solution.
In the past couple of years, an important issue has come to the forefront in Human Resources: pay transparency.
About one third of employees in the US don’t feel they are compensated fairly, according to a Beqom survey, and over half of employed adults said they would change jobs to work at a company with more pay transparency.
Managing remote employees can be tricky but overcoming challenges in the hybrid workplace is achievable. Hybrid work plans, which combine in-office and remote work, are becoming increasingly popular as employees seek a balance between the benefits of both models. Hybrid work plans offer the opportunity for employees to interact with one another in the office while also providing flexibility to work from home.
However, it’s important to be aware that there are signs that a hybrid work plan may not be the most effective for a company. As per the survey conducted by Owl Labs, globally, 16% of the total employees are working remotely, whereas 62% have opted for working hybrid.
