Title: Payroll Tax Specialist

Location: Remote, out of Atlanta, GA and Chicago, IL
Status: Non-exempt, part time

Job Summary: The payroll tax specialist performs payroll tax-related functions, including tax notice research, audit, and resolution, fields payroll tax compliance questions from internal and external stakeholders, and reviews payroll reporting in a multi-site, multi-state, high-volume environment. The payroll tax specialist provides excellent customer service to managers and associates and is well versed in payroll compliance, taxes and reporting.
Job Responsibilities:
- Set up income tax withholding, unemployment, and other employer payroll tax accounts for various states and municipalities for clients.
- Research and resolve payroll tax notices, including calling state and local tax agencies to discuss with revenue or unemployment insurance agents.
- Audit payroll platforms and state tax portals to ensure all tax account information is complete and employer tax returns and payments are filed in a timely manner.

- Build relationships with Flex HR clients and vendors.
- Provide detailed knowledge of multi-state employer tax law to clients.
- Be organized, detail-oriented, and self-managed to oversee and follow up on outstanding tax notices with the appropriate agency, payroll platform, or key stakeholder.
- Work with the accounting department within a client to ensure that the coding is correct for the general ledger.
- Handle all tax change requests in the payroll systems.
- Follow appropriate workflows and procedures for the payroll tax department.
- Maintain knowledge of rules and laws which govern payroll administration practices including taxation, benefits, and state & federal regulations.
- Ensure that payroll-related transactions are processed in compliance with external and internal policies.
- Reconcile errors and maintain/document all payroll records.
- Reconcile general ledger regarding payroll transactions.
- Use cell phone to monitor client needs including uploading Flex HR emails to their phone. • Other assignments & project assigned by management.

Specific Job Requirements:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of high-volume payroll tax related experience.
- CPA firm or state tax agency experience a plus.
- Experience running payroll within multiple U.S. states a plus.
- Demonstrated excellence in research, customer service, and written communications.
- Excellent Excel & report writing skills.
- Experience with multiple payroll platforms is helpful.
- ADP, Paycor, Quickbooks, NetChex, Paycom and Paylocity payroll systems experience a plus.
